Low-iron sericite is mainly used in refractory castables, gunning mixes, etc.
Mica is a general term for a very important type of phyllosilicate mineral with a layered structure. Its most notable characteristic is its perfect flaky cleavage, which allows it to be easily peeled into elastic, thin, and tough sheets.
Main Characteristics
1. Perfect flaky cleavage: This is the most feature of mica. Due to its layered crystal structure, the bonding force between layers is weak, so it easily splits into thin sheets when subjected to force.
2. Elasticity and toughness: The peeled mica sheets have good elasticity, can be bent, and can partially return to their original shape after bending, and are not easy to break.
3. Insulation: Mica is an excellent electrical insulator and is resistant to high temperatures. This characteristic makes it irreplaceable in the electronics and electrical industry.
4. High-temperature resistance: Mica has a high melting point (above approximately 1200℃) and can maintain stable physical and chemical properties at high temperatures.
5. Chemical stability: Mica has strong resistance to acids and alkalis and is relatively stable in chemical properties.
6. Optical properties: Most mica sheets are tran***rent and have a glassy or pearly luster.
